This Instant Pot yogurt recipe is a great way to make a large batch of yogurt in a short amount of time. The prep time is minimal and the yogurt only needs to cook in the Instant Pot for 2-3 hours. The yogurt is creamy and delicious, perfect for adding to smoothies, topping with fresh fruit or enjoying on its own. Plus, you can customize it with your favorite flavorings and toppings.

Prep Time

The yogurt takes very little prep time. All you need to do is gather the ingredients and equipment, mix the ingredients together, and pour into the Instant Pot. The yogurt will take about 2-3 hours to cook in the Instant Pot, so plan accordingly if you want to enjoy the yogurt for breakfast or lunch.

Cook Time

The total cook time for the yogurt is about 2-3 hours. This includes the time needed for the Instant Pot to come to pressure, the time it takes to cook the yogurt, and the time it takes to come back down to pressure. You can leave the yogurt in the Instant Pot for up to 10 hours; however, it is best to enjoy the yogurt within a few hours of cooking for optimal flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt with live active cultures
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Flavored syrups or honey (optional)

Equipment

  • Instant Pot
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon
  • Storage containers

Instructions

1. Pour the milk into the Instant Pot. Close the lid and make sure the valve is set to sealing. Select the yogurt setting and set the timer for 2 hours. The Instant Pot will come up to pressure and then begin cooking the yogurt.

2. Once the yogurt is finished cooking, allow the Instant Pot to depressurize for about 20 minutes before opening the lid. Once the pressure has released, open the lid and stir in the yogurt starter and salt.

3. Divide the yogurt into individual storage containers and add flavored syrups or honey, if desired. Place the containers in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the yogurt to thicken and the flavors to blend.

4. Enjoy the yogurt as-is, or use in recipes or smoothies. The yogurt will last in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.

Notes

For best results, use whole milk for this recipe. Low-fat or skim milk will not produce as creamy or thick of a yogurt. If you prefer, you can substitute coconut milk or almond milk for the dairy milk.
